Dovetailed
Dovetailed
Our dovetailed urns are designed to showcase workmanship. There is no question that these urns are made of solid wood. Though dovetailing is occasionally associated with utilitarian applications, it is often found on display in fine Scandinavian woodwork. Each dovetailed joint is permanently glued in place, but the joints are so strong and tight that the glue is not strictly necessary. Access to the interior of the urn is thru a panel on the underside.
Our dovetailed line can be constructed of any available wood. We can easily acquire red and white oak, maple, walnut, cherry, ash, cypress, pine, mahogany, padauk and purpleheart. We can also use any wood you would like to contribute. This might include wood from a special tree or property, old barn or house wood, planks from a naval vessel or anything else that might be meaningful. Dovetailed urns may also be made of Southern live oak when supplies are available.
Our pricing is for basic pine. Using hardwoods may increase the price slightly although given the small size of an urn, the increase is not usually too significant.
The urns pictured are 9x6x6. This gives an interior size of 200 square inches. This would be suitable for a person who had weighed 200 pounds. Since each urn is custom made, we can accommodate whatever size you need.
A photo of dovetailed joints in progress can be found in our journal section.
